What We Do

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a training system that uses specially designed spring resistance-based equipment (pictured at right) or specialized mat exercises to develop core and full body strength. The first emphasis is on building a strong, supported, yet supple spine. Gradually the entire body is challenged to connect into this strength, and the whole body becomes more integrated and stronger as a result.

Core Benefits:

  • Promotes long, strong muscles
  • Heightens coordination and balance
  • Sharpens mental focus
  • Alleviates poor posture and restores structural integrity through the application of alignment principles
  • Restores proper body function and integration of all systems: muscular, skeletal, respiratory, circulatory, nervous
  • Reduces and prevents pain and illness
  • Heals and rehabilitates through a gentle and methodical approach to the body
  • Complements and enhances any sport or activity

What is Gyrotonicâ„¢?

Gyrotonic training is three-dimensional exercise taught on unique weight and pulley based equipment (pictured at right). Founded by Juliu Horvath, in the principles of yoga, dance, tai chi, and swimming, Gyrotonic training is a series of circular and fluid exercises that works the entire body through muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular stimulation.

Core Benefits:

  • Promotes strong, lean muscles
  • Increases flexibility, coordination, and balance
  • Enhances joint mobility and articulation
  • Frees the body of pain and restrictions
  • Increases circulation of blood, lymphatic fluids, and energy
  • Strengthens the nervous system
  • Compliments/supplements physical therapy and other rehabilitative body work
  • Helps prevents osteoporosis
  • Helps to slow the aging process through mental and physical stimulation and regeneration

WHAT IS GYROKINESIS? (mat format)

Gyrokinesis upholds the same principles of Gyrotonic, but does so without the use of equipment. It is similar to a dance or yoga class, as it is taught in a group setting. Like a dance class, flow and rhythm are essential to the curriculum. But unlike a yoga class, there is no position holding or potential for energetic stagnation.

Core Benefits:

  • Promotes spine and joint articulation and mobilization
  • Increases muscular contraction, extension, flexibility, and coordination
  • Increases circulation of blood, lymphatic fluids, and energy
  • Improves elimination and absorption
  • Compliments traditional cardiovascular activity and cross-training
  • Provides a mobile workout that can be easily performed while at home, office, or traveling
  • Increases body awareness
